Youth Leadership in Auburn: Building Our Future Together
There is an increasing recognition of the critical role that youth leadership plays in shaping the future of our communities. In Auburn, Washington, home to over 87,000 residents, the need for empowering young leaders has never been more crucial. As a city with a growing young population, it is important to consider how we can nurture this potential to ensure our community thrives both today and tomorrow.
Why Youth Leadership Matters
Young people are not just the leaders of tomorrow; they are the leaders of today. From my work on the Auburn City Council and in many community organizations, I have witnessed firsthand the incredible impact that young leaders can have when given the opportunity and resources to thrive. With the diverse cultural and social fabric of Auburn, our youth are rich in the potential to drive positive change.
Our city, celebrated for its historical heritage and thriving arts scene, provides a fertile ground for nurturing young talent. Institutions like Green River College and events at the White River Amphitheatre offer numerous avenues for creative and personal growth[1]. The ability to learn and lead in such a supportive environment is key to empowering our younger residents.
Youth Leadership: A Pillar of My Campaign
Investing in our young people is not an option; it is an imperative. As I run for Mayor, youth leadership stands as a cornerstone of my platform. I believe that equipping our young people with leadership opportunities is essential for Auburn’s continued success and prosperity. It aligns with my broader vision of a city that thrives on community engagement and collective growth, embodying the philosophy that “It’s not about me, It’s about all of us.”
My Personal Connection to Youth Leadership
Growing up as one of 18 children in a family of migrant workers, I understand the challenges that young people face when building their futures. My experience running a bilingual childcare center for 13 years taught me the importance of early leadership exposure and the value of nurturing young minds. These experiences have shaped my commitment to fostering a supportive environment where Auburn’s youth can flourish.
Empowering Auburn’s Youth: A Path Forward
My vision as Mayor includes practical initiatives designed to support youth leadership in Auburn:
- Expanded Mentorship Programs: Connect students with local leaders and professionals to gain insights, experience, and networks.
- School Partnerships: Collaborate with schools to integrate leadership development into the curriculum, fostering critical skills from an early age.
- Youth Leadership Grants: Provide funding for youth-led projects, allowing young people to take ownership of initiatives that benefit the community.

Your support is vital in transforming these ideas into action. By investing in youth leadership, we create a community in which all residents, especially our young future leaders, feel valued and equipped to contribute. It’s about working together to ensure our city thrives with the strength and diversity of its young voices guiding the way.
Let’s work hand in hand to nurture the youth of Auburn and build a brighter, more promising future for everyone. I invite you to be a part of this movement. Together, we can achieve great things.
